What are STEMathons?

STEMathons are hackathons, but with a general science-based focus instead of strictly computer science. During the pandemic, it seems to be that the only opportunities to continue learning and participating in extracurriculars are hackathons. However, not all students are interested in strictly programming, so our aim is to provide an opportunity for students to learn and showcase their science abilities through our international virtual STEMathon, STEMathonX.

What kind of workshops will we host?

As of now, we have the following workshops planned:

  • Technology in Medicine
  • Computer Science
  • Surgery
  • General Doctor/Pediatrics
  • Physics
  • Lab Science

What kind of projects will we create?

You can create a project on a STEM topic. As per the format, it is up to you. Research, inventions, science fair experiment, real-world solution, etc. are all acceptable!

Can I work on a team?

Of course! You can work on a team of up to 4 people.

How will projects be evaluated?

The projects will be evaluated by industry professionals. There will be 6 judges — each one gets a sixth of the projects entered. One project will go to 2 judges and based upon their ratings out of 10, we will rank the projects.

How will we communicate during the event?

We will use Slack as our primary source of communication. After registering, we will email you a link to join our Slack. From there you will be able to create an account and join our workspace. Over there you may ask any questions you have to other students, link up with other students, or contact the directors.

Will there be prizes?

Prizes for the winners are TBD. Every attendee will receive a certificate of participation.
